Thomas Nilsson

Date of birth: 27 September 1941

Ph.D. thesis: “Studies on the mechanisms of fungal degradation of wood and various cellulosic fibres” (1974).

Previous position: “Professor in Wood Ultrastructure, Microbial Degradation and Biotechnological Utilization” at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (from January 1988).

Present position: Professor emeritus at the Swdish University of Agricultural Sciences (since 2008).

 

Ca 200 publications, ca 100 in refereed international publications.

 

Has supervised a number of Ph.D. students and acted as a faculty opponent in two cases.

Has been used as a referee for ca 50 manuscripts intended for publication in international journals and been member of the Editorial Board of Material und Organismen and Journal of Wood Science.

Attended and presented papers at a large number of conferences throughout the world.

 

Member of International Union of Wood Anatomists, International Academy of Wood Science.

Has been active in the three working groups, WG21, WG23 and WG25 within CEN/TC38 (European Committee for Standardization).

Has together with scientists from CTH, KTH and STFI initiated the currently running VINNOVA competence centre “WURC” (Wood Ultrastructure Research Centre).

At present leader of WG1 of the COST Action IE0601 “Wood Science for the Conservation of cultural heritage”.

At present “Guest professor” at SP Trätek in Stockholm.
